Update [2004-12-19 22:38:57 by ashke]:This diary deleted after the apparently ignorant poster (ashke's, my name) came back after an 11 hour absence to read that it was probably a copyright violation. My apologies for any rules I have broken and harm that I caused. I received the excerpt in an e-mail from a friend and assumed that if it was making its rounds, that it must be okay. Consider me scolded and please let me know if I cross the line again in the future.
For those interested in the book that the excerpt I posted came from, the link to the author's website is here:

Jennifer Granholm Responds
Fri Dec 03, 2004 at 04:19:47 PM PDT
Apparently, Jennifer got an earful from Michigander's who were angry about the reports that she was abandoning domestic partner benefits for queer couples. I posted this in a thread from yesterday about the topic (

Tell the Bush Administration to Stop Mercury Pollution
Sat Aug 28, 2004 at 04:09:09 PM PDT
Your action item for today, should you choose to accept it...
Recently you might have read in your local paper about the Bush administration's announcement that more of America's rivers and lakes are polluted with poisonous mercury pollution than ever before. "Mercury is everywhere," EPA Administrator Mike Leavitt told the New York Times.
Unfortunately, instead of taking action to solve the problem by requiring power plants to install the modern pollution controls that could reduce mercury pollution by 90%, the Bush administration has proposed delaying mercury rules for power plants by a decade.
Pledge Your Vote
Sat Aug 28, 2004 at 12:52:28 PM PDT
For those of you who like to participate in polls, here's one for you. It doesn't seem to have any value other than fulfilling a curiosity about how others are voting. You have to register, so it may be a bit more accurate than your average MSNBC or CNN poll. Bush is currently in the lead.
The website sponsoring the poll, Congress.org, is also a fairly useful tool for locating and contacting your representatives.
I did a search and hadn't seen any other diaries on this, so I thought I'd pass it along for those who are interested.

Florida Woman's Dying Wish
Thu Aug 05, 2004 at 12:25:14 PM PDT
I found this listed on Air America's front page and thought it was interesting enough to share here.
Didn't know her, but after reading it I think she's someone I would have liked to have known. Maybe those of you who read this can donate (money or time) to a candidate/cause of your choosing in her honor.
Florida Woman's Dying Wish: Beat Bush
A South Florida woman, Joan Abbey who died last week had an unusual last request. Instead of flowers or contributions in her name to a charity, she asked those who loved her to try to make sure President George W. Bush is not re-elected.
NV Paper Ballots (w/Poll)

Nevada First to Use Electronic Voting with Printers
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Nevada on Friday said it would be the first U.S. state to use voting machines that will leave a paper trail, the first large-scale response to concerns that a paperless system could lead to ballot fraud.
(snip)
The printer is mounted beside the touch screen and displays the voter's selections behind glass so that no one can touch or change the paper record.
