Put To Sleep

Sun Mar 27, 2005 at 09:48:16 AM PDT

One of the loudest objections from the fright-wing about euthanasia is that supporters of the procedure advocate "putting down" the elderly and infirm "like animals". The implication is that we somehow see them as subhuman, something to be exterminated. Analogies to Nazi Germany often flow fast and furious. I contend that likening euthanasia to putting pets to sleep is, in fact, one of the strongest arguments for euthanasia.

The Religious Wrong-Wing and Social Security

Wed Mar 09, 2005 at 06:00:26 PM PDT

Whatever the factors that foreshadow the imminent demise of Social Security, the destruction of millions of would-have-been taxpayers through legalized abortion must be considered one of the most potent.  Ironically, many of the nearly 50 million unborn children destroyed by abortionists at the behest of their mothers had their lives ended for economic reasons. The children whose birth presented such an economic threat to their parents are now the missing pieces in their parents economic future.

(Taken from a quoted block in azindy's excellent Evangelicals and Stem Cells diary)

This quote brought back to mind a few discussions with some of the more fundamentalist wingers I know, and resulted in a bit of an epiphany. In short, even though their religion calls upon them to help the poor and needy, these "Christians" fight against social security as part of their culture war.

Election Fraud and AI

Sat Jan 01, 2005 at 03:34:22 PM PDT

As most of you know, I've been a... Rather vocal participant in the election fraud discussions here in the wake of November 2nd. After a recent discussion with DemFromCT, I've come to the following conclusion: election fraud is AI.

Black Box FoIA-ing the Cheaters!

Wed Nov 03, 2004 at 06:24:55 AM PDT

While some here are ready to give up right now, Bev Harris at Black Box Voting is getting ready to rip the Cheaters a new one. She's kicked off the largest Freedom of Information Act request in American history, auditing the internal computer logs, modem logs, polling place result slips, computer trouble tickets, and other interfnal election documents in the three thousand most suspicious counties nationwide.

Moore On the Hunt!

Tue Nov 02, 2004 at 10:19:18 PM PDT

Michael Moore may just be the man that saves America. He's been operating a voting fraud information repository on his web site, and some of the stories there are hair-raising... And explain quite nicely why Florida and Ohio have diverged so far from polls. Folks, this election is far from over, and things are going to get messy, messy, messy before they get better.

Winning the Peace

Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 08:56:44 PM PDT

Now, I think, we can see the real reason why the Bush administration is trying to hand over as much of Iraq as possible to the British. As this BBC article clearly highlights, the British know how to win the peace. The Americans simply don't.

This still leaves the question of whether the situation's salvagable. I think the most telling quote is about three-quarters of the way through the article:

[Brigadier Andrew Kennet] told me "I did not raze Basra to the ground, but I could have done."

Bush: Blunders or Base?

Sun Oct 10, 2004 at 09:16:44 AM PDT

A lot of us have assumed that Bush's performance in the two Presidential debates so far was a blunder. That he'd somehow messed up, that he'd been isolated for too long, that he was doing the white powder again.

While this definitely seems plausible, after the discussion about the Dred Scott comment, I'd like to put forth another hypothesis. That this is part of Rove's "ignore swing voters, turn out the base" strategy.

Brainstorm: "Not Sure About Kerry"

Tue Sep 28, 2004 at 07:38:42 PM PDT

One of the common, recurring themes in polls and discussions of swing voters is that these voters apparently "aren't sure about John Kerry". Most of them want Bush gone already, outside of his 40% base of support, but they're not sure yet if John Kerry is the man they want to replace him. If Kerry can't convince these people of this by November 2nd, they might well stay home or, even worse, vote for the devil they know.

What can we do to help make people comfortable with John Kerry?

The Internet Strategy

Sun Sep 12, 2004 at 07:36:35 PM PDT

Back in the 1960s, there was a major upset in the political landscape. From the mid-30s until that point, politics had primarily been carried to the people by way of radio. During the 1960 election, most who heard the debate by way of radio thought that Nixon had won. But those who viewed it by television broadcast found Kennedy much more impressive, which is generally considered to have swung the election his way. This was the dawn of the "Television Strategy" in politics. In the 2004 election, we're looking at the dawn of the "Internet Strategy".

Mythology

Sat Sep 11, 2004 at 10:46:33 AM PDT

It's worth noting that we don't just have history and the facts on our side. We've also got mythology. Of a certain sort. Though it remains to be seen if more will be written on Dean, the hero who stole fire from Karl Rove; or Kerry who, despite being Aquaman, went on to lead the Democratic Justice League in their struggle against the evil Republican tyrants and their armies of mindless clones.

Bush Flips off Protester

Sat Jul 10, 2004 at 08:48:34 AM PDT

Yes, you read that headline right. In the distant small town of East Lampeter, PA, Bush has been sighted flipping off a protester: http://www.livejournal.com/users/jiveturky/185733.html
